Time Extensions for the Eagle Scout Rank

Normally you must complete all your Eagle Scout requirements (except your board of review) by the day before your 18th birthday. In very rare circumstances, it may be possible to get an extension of this deadline for a few months. Most of these extensions are because of an unforeseen and unpredictable medical situation such as a long term coma from a skiing accident, a long hospitalization, or sudden major illness in the last few months before your 18th birthday. Running out of time, or long term pre-existing conditions, do not justify a time extension. In the past, about 1 of 1000 Eagle Scouts have had time extensions approved.

Applying for a Time Extension to Complete the Eagle Scout Rank

You must read each of the following very carefully to properly fill out the request form:

The form, all required documentation, the Scout's email address, and their parent's email address should be submitted to Advancement@cccbsa.org. It is important to continue to move forward with work towards Eagle while the time extension request is considered. The more detailed information is submitted initially, including on what has been completed, what is left to be done, and how the unexpected condition is delaying completion; the faster your application can be processed.

Appealing a Time Extension Denial

If the request for a time extension is denied, there is an appeal process available. Again, you must read each of the following to properly fill out the appeal form:
